The sky has gone a total grey/black, the temp is about 15C, the wind has got up and the skies have opened. The road is now a river. Rain is driving against the window. Welcome to summer in Britain. Who said global warming was happening? If it is, it's not here .

I know. It's a total joke isn't it? I keep a log of my rides and virtually every description this year is about the wind experienced on that ride. That's the one thing that's characterised 2009 for me. Even when the rain holds off, it's colder than normal and much, much windier than I ever remember it. What's going on?

I don't know. In the early eighties the Met were forecasting an imminent Ice Age the Thames would be frozen for 5 months of the year and we'd all be in the grip of Siberian winds for 8 month winters. Still might come to pass. Mind you I don't think they know their elbow from their 4rse as their forecasting is even more unreliable than it ever was IMHO. Have you noticed they spend 3/4 of the bulletin telling you what the weather has been, even this is wrong, and then only give a very general forecast for the next 24 hrs if that. Gone are pressure charts. Weather forecasting has definitely been dumbed down principally by the BBC.

I think global warming/climate change for us in Blighty = warmer winters & wetter summers!

I remember 6-10ft snow drifts and walking from my garden over the hedge/road into the field without a problem! Where has that gone?

Saying that its around 40 degrees at my folks place in Almeria at the moment and they have had bush fires 5km away in Mojacar! Going in 3 1/2 weeks!

I think it's just doing the decent thing and getting all its raining over and done with before we go camping so we don't get drownded like we have the last four years in succession. I think.

Went to an open air concert yesterday evening - Staus Quo in South Devon.

It just about stopped raining while they were on stage. The rest of the time .......

It certainly seemed last year as if the autumn was drier than the summer. At the moment, the showery rain seems more like April. Sunny one minute - soaked the next.

Whereas in autumn (and winter for that matter), at least you can bet if a day is wet, it's probably going to be wet all day and if it's dry, it's properly dry. Is it my memory playing tricks, or have I got wetter already this summer than I did last autumn?
