Duuuh! Cos of I'm not quite so crumpled .............

Ye daft so-and-so, cyclists do frequently survive?
I didn't mean that, and I apologise for not making it clearer. If I'm hurt, or even dead, I would rather the medics did their stuff rather than ponce about with over-dramatic dog tags and the like or trying to find my identity. If anybody wants to find me after the event, I'm sure they will. Where will this all end? An Interflora speed dial on your mobile to set up an instant roadside shrine?

^_^ Ah - we pretty well agree!

Yup - I want the medics to do their stuff. But I'd also like one, simple, unambiguous way to contact my family.

I suppose it's just that I really don't want to get on the bike with all manner of negative scenarios uppermost in my mind ( or stuck to my wallet/helmet, or whatever)). The same reason I have absolutely no wish to wear a helmet cam in the faint chance that it might possibly prove that I was in the right when somebody smacked into me. It spoils my fun.

I've got an ICE ID bracelet, it wasn't expensive about $10 if iirc.

Now if only I could remember to wear it, it'd be some use.

Contacting relatives is a secondary task that is usually performed at the Hospital stage, not by paramedics.

The "Standard" is a Talisman or similar SOS bracelet or necklace if you have allergies, medical condition, or with some drugs

Just asked a colleague who's ex-ambo - first place they'll look is your wrist or around your neck for a Medic Alert/Vital ID/Other Brand (delete as applicable) bracelet or pendant. That being the case, why try to introduce yet another standard when there is already a widely adopted convention? Most people have a wrist or a neck, but not everyone has a helmet.

Never put stickers on your helmet as the adhesive can weaken them.

This will reduce your protection from lawyers.

Nonsense. The shell of a cycle helmet is merely decorative and has nothing to do with padding the head in an impact.

I'd be a teeny bit more concerned with a motorbike helmet where the shell is supposed to resist point impacts and spread them but I have still never seen or heard any evidence that an adhesive can weaken a plastic.

What about a BMX style helmet? Their shells are a lot thicket than other cycle helmets.
And it's the solvent in the adhesive that can weaken plastics.

The other side's lawyers could use this to try and reduce damages.

Wouldn't worry about motorcycle helmets either - stickers are always applied when you are scrutineered for race meetings (they actually must carry an ACU sticker) - its when they are re-painted you have to be careful as some paints can react with the shell.

Its the old thermoplastic lids that were weakened by the solvents in the adhesive. Fibreglass, kevlarglass, carbon etc are unaffected. I still wouldn't do it thought - you've just been wiped out by Evel Knieval then your helmet is liable to be in a right state and such a decal could be obliterated or unreadable.
