as above, i looked at tightening the spokes but it continued should i back the spokes off alittle is it due to them being too tight?

Degreased or grit in the headset? Front wheel bearings loose/dirty/degreased? Loose or recently rebuilt front wheel (spokes will creak a bit after rebuild, until they settle)? Front axle nuts incorrectly tightened (possibly front axle not settled into fork dropouts before tightening - happens sometimes if put in on a workstand)?

Some of the above are serious, others just need minor correction. Others will be able to suggest other possibilities I'm sure.

I would only back off spokes if the tension was too high the creaking may be the spokes rubbing at the cross over points assuming it's a traditional lacing pattern and not got straight pull or bladed spokes ? Try droping bit of oil in between the spokes where they cross.
