Old news - 2 threads about this in January. IIRC it received quite a bit of criticism.

Oooh! Excuse me all over the place, oh font of all knowledge.

Bad day at work, or just feeling pissy?

BTW, it is a shoot idea. For it to work you would need very dark streets. IMO, it would only really work on a country road and then the concept would disappear as soon as a car headlights drowned the low level red lights.

The light lane is only a concept - it received a bunch of publicity a while back and they just released footage of a (green coloured?) prototype.

I've seen the video and I'm not too impressed. Cars won't see the lines on the ground unless its reasonably dark (i.e. not near a street light) and only when practically upon the cyclist. IMO its useless for anyone who does not cycle at a similar speed to the traffic passing them.

Still, it's good to see people trying these things - if people didn't life would be very boring and there'd never be any innovations (just not sure this is one that ought to last).

You get the same effect (without the bike logo) by using a DiNotte 400L rear light mounted on the seat post and angled down, even on lit roads there is a red glow from the tarmac. The difference is the DiNotte 400L is a product that is on sale and the LightLane is a concept which probable won't make it to market. Oh and the DiNotte 400L works in day light as well...

A bit like wheel reflectors - very good if you travel sideways on to the traffic, otherwise who are you hoping will see them and so not hit you?

i didn't say instead of a light did i?! i'll be ordering a set because rear & front lights have the same problem, but from the side. however, in the videos there are plenty of examples where the cyclists are only using the monkey light and there is a hell of a lot of light reflection on the ground, similar to the dinnotte.
