As they are all colour photos they have no date we will have to date them by the children age and locations , Christmas will be easy,, fortunately we have very good memories, well SWIMBO has at least.

Yeah, time consuming. Even more so the better organised you want to be.

I can’t offer any meaningful advice on the latest cameras or scanners/printers. ‘I know nothing’.
Well, I do know someone with an Olympus TG-7 and he rates it too. Those macros look good.

More gear news. On Thursday, I snagged a Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar ‘Zebra’ 50mm lens for a giveaway price of just £9.04! It needed work as most lenses of this age do (especially E. German and Russian ones. The grease always dries out or spreads around gumming up the aperture). I spent some time yesterday evening cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting (CLA) it, and I must say, despite the hype and somewhat inflated prices surrounding this lens, it’s a little gem.

That is a superb camera for point and shoot plus it’s virtually indestructible too. Been looking at one for Mrs Christmas present.

Yeah, it seems a lot of bang for one's buck. There's not much decent stuff in that range... there seems to be a big gap between the cheap ones up to £100-ish and then jumping up to £600-700 for the likes of Canons etc. So this one came as a nice surprise to find. Really looking forward to trying it out, even more so now after what you've said! Will post some results on here in a couple of days.

Ooh, nice (though I think you should have beaten them down to £8.99). You must have a good eye & steady hand to do the renovation work. Will look forward to some WoW vintage photos is due course.

I've always had a decent camera until the autumn of last year when I sold my Lumix MFT GX80 and assorted lenses as I'd not used them for some long time, not least due to the bulk of carrying them around - a decent pixel smartphone had taken over. But I found I still had the itch so...

Bought a TG-7 last month and I love it. Phone in one pocket and TG-7 in the other - I can take it anywhere with me AND let the grandkids have a play around too. Great for macro and I'm sure you'll love it:

Lovely photos - looks like I've made good (fairly impulsive) choice. Youpi !

Ha, yeah, I must learn to haggle.
This lens has a reputation to be fiddly to work on, particularly the over complicated aperture. Taking plenty of reference shots with the phone, appropriate marking and taking notes, it wasn’t too difficult despite hands that have started to shake only when things get fiddly. Typical.
A few lenses I’ve bought have been assembled incorrectly at some point in their lives, which can cause a world of pain as there are many ways to reassemble, but only one will leave you with a lens that works.

It's been 20 years since I did that so any info I have will be out of date so I'd suggest searching the internet for latest info. (Here? 😂)
I did it using a slide/film scanner and then followed up by simply using my DSLR for prints.
What will not have changed is that it is a very time consuming project. Very worthwhile though!

Edit - What was invaluable while I had the albums to hand in chronological order was to catalogue the digital file by date (YYYYMMDD if possible) so they could be sorted and easily found later.
For photos that old, I'd definitely be looking for a negative scanner rather than trying to scan prints.

Genuine question - have you got an original (film) 1981 OM1, and if not, would you like one? I'm never going to use mine again, and it's sitting there gathering dust, with the original 50mm lens and 35-70mm zoom. It would be nice if it had a second life while I'm still alive, rather than being sent to a charity shop when I deaded.

I really appreciate the generous offer, but I just can't see myself using film. I like certain aspects of film photography, but the convenience of digital is just too appealing.

No worries - thought that might be the case, but there was a chance you had a dark(room) secret.

Probably ought to put it on eBay, but would prefer for it to go to someone I know and then see the results. It's got all the mod cons... well, an exposure meter that you can see via the viewfinder.
