I've been thinking... How is average score calculated? Is it just total runs divided by innings?

I didn't compile those stats
... the point being, just about every metric shows England to be a much better side under Baz/Ben than in the preceding decade-ish. (or 4 billion years - I don't have those stats to hand).
And it's more entertaining.

When they lose, i see glum faces and "petulant" interviews. Not players drowning in champers on Bondai Beach.

For me, that'll do.

p.s. I liked your question. I just don't have the ability to answer it, soz! x

It is runs divided by the number of times you are out, not number of innings in which you bat.

So, if you scored the following

13
36
95 not out
0
10

Your average would be (13+36+95+0+10)/4 = 38.5

Oh, and an English test cricketer would almost certainly have a 'central contract' and be paid between £200,00 and £1,000,000 per year by the ECB, this doesn't include payments for playing in the IPL, The Hundred etc...

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.

That's individual batting averages. I was referring to the "Avg Score" stat posted by @matticus upthread here which applies to the team as a whole. Its a measure of the average score per innings. I was questioning how it was calculated.

Just switched on, looks like it was a disasterous start but has been steadied. Pitch seems to be doing quite a bit under the lights wth Stokes and Root fighting the temptation to take risks.

I’m sure that opening the batting in Australia is one of the hardest things to do in international sport but losing 2 wickets for no runs just gives the whole team a really negative start.
Glad to see we have steadied the ship.

The momentum swings so fast.
3 ducks is rubbish batting.

Marginally better than the first test batting, but still nowhere near good enough to establish a winning position.
Starc again getting through them like knife through butter.
