Is there a critical mass presence where you live? Do you take part in the rides?
We have a small group that ride once a month in town here, I want to go, but I'm not sure I wholly support the ethos of obstructing traffic.
keen to hear of other's experiences.

Yes, London. Do I take part? No, and for the same reasons as you.

I've seen videos of the Liverpool one. They routinely break the law, deliberately cause as much hassle to everyone else as possible and scream abuse at anyone who disagrees with them. Apparently this is supposed to promote cycling in some way

ASBO the lot of 'em.

No different to selfish twats behind the wheel of a car IMO. We all have to share the road, and but there are people on both 2 and 4 wheels who seem to think they own it.

+ 100 Can't see how this pi----g people off will make anything any better. Will just cause bad feeling and mistrust. Other people DO have the right to use the road and they DO have the right to go about their lawfull business unmolested and unobstructed same as cyclists. There are better ways of making a point.

they were once regular around these parts... now much more infrequent... more like a comical mess than critical mass when you see the same old dozen or so serial whiners 'trying to make a difference'. Nobbers, the lot of 'em.

Mostly Anglican where I live, so we tend not to call it Mass.

The small RC population in this region seem happy with their lot and their Sunday worship seldom contains any criticism or negativity.

I like the idea of a Critical Mass, being more visible and raising awareness but I disagree with the way it is done, IMO they just infuriate the already furious and may alienate those drivers who have no opinion. An extreme example, but most folk here will recall the incident (if thats the right word) which occurred in Brazil.

I did one in Glasgow a couple of years ago and it was so bad I renamed it Critical Mess.

If you want to piss off the maximum number of road users in a single event, that's the way to do it.

There is a cycling campaign group here in Newcastle and hey do periodically have a "ride through town" however, I stay away from them for he same reasons as other responders here.
