I have Java set to update automatically so I get the latest updates as soon as they are available.Does open office get updated from the Web though Colin? I don't use it so i don't know. Just if it did, would that leave a security gap if office updates and talks to java?
Probably talking rubbish cos as i just said i don't really know or use it.
I think the best advice now is to install Java only if you need it for an application such as Open Office or particular websites. Only enable it in your web browser if/when you want to visit those sites. If you have Java on your system, make sure you keep up to date with all security fixes. (The latter advice applies to all the software on your computer.)
. But I've stuck with Java 6, because my single installation of Java 7 was a failure. The application I was writing worked (and still works) perfectly on Java 6, but not on Java 7, so I'm in no hurry to install Java 7 just yet.
