cromoly?

so what is this cromoly stuff? the dawes galaxy cross and many of the other galaxies use it how does it compare to then 6061 alloy used on the galaxy AL for example?

^^^ What they said about it being an alloy of steel, chromium and molybdenum. How it compares is that it isn't as light as 6061 aluminium alloy but it is very much stronger and more resistant to fatigue failure. A well made cro-moly frame will have a certain amount of spring in it which makes it popular with the touring crowd as it is more comfortable over long distances.

The higher spec steel based alloys can make frames as light as aluminium ones because you can make the wall thickness of the tubes much thinner, but it costs more. At the very top end of this material family is Reynolds 953 stainless steel, which is stronger than titanium.:hyper:

will probably be looking at chromoly rather than ally or an ally alloy then due to the corrosion side of things
