A friend of mine just got fined £ 30.00 by the police for not dismounting at pedestrian lights.
So remember: no green wee bike, no riding across

That sounds fair enough. They wont let me take my motorbike across either.

Yes, it was in Darnley,at the back of Pollockshaws Road. You are so right about the red lights, the other day a woman cycling with a child (on his own bike) let him cross at the riverside casino on a red light. Bad.

I prefer to see them fining people who ride through red lights AS WELL as those who ride across crossings.

Here for rides.
I'd prefer them to fine motorists who ignore amber or red lights.

I think we need to put our own house in order before pointing the finger at motorists, lorry drivers, bus drivers, horse riders, dog owners etc, etc, etc.

How can they take cyclists seriously if we keep saying everything is their fault and not ours.

Whose house? Speaking for myself, Im not responsible for what other cyclists do and its not relevant to making other road users to obey the rules too.

I don't have a problem with enforcement I guess but the incident in the OP seems a bit heavy handed unless they were a hazard to pedestrians.

steveindenmark has a fair point, the rules apply to all, on two, four, six or eight wheels and surely it's not too bad to sacrifice a few seconds to walk across a crossing ?

I wanst really disagreeing with him on that point. The fine I would assume was for riding on the pavement rather than not dismounting at lights.

This is an odd point, I THINK if it's not a toucan crossing you do have to dismount when using it. Strange but true. However happy to be proved wrong, anybody out there with a definitive answer ?

Are we talking about pavement cycling here? If so the crossing usage is just a further level of unacceptable behavior to add to unacceptable behavior.
No pavement cycling: we have shared pedestrian/cycling paths (that are in effect pavements) clearly signposted as such, but if you need to cross, sometimes there is a crossing with a bike traffic light, sometimes not. Apparently you are only allowed to ride across if there is a green bike traffic light, otherwise you have to dismount and walk across.
