A curate and a bishop are sharing a train journey. The bishop is tutting over his crossword. The curate, eager to help, asks if he is stuck.
"It's this last clue. Blank, U, N, T, essentially feminine. " says the bishop.
"Ah" says the curate "Aunt"
"Thank you" says the bishop "Can you lend me a rubber? "

I'm Sorry I Haven't a Solution seems closer. Anyhow, I started off with PO followed by how /the/ is often represented in Yorkshire - simply as a t or a t'. That gives Pot. Then I come up with CH or CE for church and my brain starts firing blanks.

It's church or church land. Them's int clue. I have just found a 5 letter word for church land, a glebe, which at least has stopped me puzzling about Glebe Way on the road from Lewisham into Blackheath.
