So shouldn't it berubino(anag) + c (century)= rubicon. I reckon you've got it.
It's probably best to avoid anagrams of words that are not given in the clue. Hence @winjim 's suggestion.My intention was .....
"a roman century on Vittoria tyres" == c+rubino
"crossed" was a indicator that it was an anagram.
"Caesar crossed" was a straight forward, non-cryptic clue.
