You don't have to be a member any more is why, which is a stuffy old nonsense anyway and if you've ever tried to book one you'd know they were pretty popular still but I don't know how that translates to cash. The YHA now spends most of its time providing 'venues' for events and cheap hotels for families than anything else.
Its membership is declining at a time when it is growing in its sister organisations in Europe and elsewhere. That should make alarm bells ring, but the YHA seems to be taking the same ostrich approach that CTC is...
The CTC are sending out an email inviting people to take part in a survey on "refreshing the brand."
One of the questions includes asking you if you think the inclusion of 'Touring' in the name is outdated.
I hate to say it but... I told you so.
I also voted against charity status and I think the word "touring" is an integral part of the club. I originally joined in the 80's when I started touring and the club was a valuable source of help and advice. There are many clubs out there for "other" forms of cycling so leave this one as it is please!!I have filled in the survey, i think it is a shame that hot on the heels of becoming a "charity", which i voted against, the CTC now feels the need to re-brand itself. There is no mention what it wants to become, but I can guess that it will try to become trendy and drop the "touring" tag. Yes, the CTC needs to attract more younger/general riders as a lot of people still think of the sandals and beard tradition of past history. Big changes are going to come.
British Cycling, or a local cycling club.I recently left CTC.
Can anyone recommend where can I get my cycle insurance from?
