Anyway, I plan to watch "Ann", after hearing lots of good reviews. I initially swerved it, as mainstream TV tends to totally ruin neat SF ideas (this is partly my own problem, for reading a billion SF short stories as a teenager - they pretty much covered all the ideas!)

It successfully avoided the hackneyed "oh woe is me I'm a robot and I want to be a human, cos humans are a bit better" trope. I was afraid it would go down that route, and if it had I would have been throwing stuff at the telly.

She certainly isn't either of the first two of those.

Banal, well that is in the eye of the beholder, and you clearly don't like her, which is perfectly reasonable.

But she is certainly intelligent, whether you like her or not. And it takes a lot of knowledge to appear ignorant in the way she does for her comedy.
