cutting 2" thick vine stalk tucked tightly into a corner

60 yrs ago, as a little boy, I stood outside & watched the workmen install a split rail fence. I asked questions & they told me how they were doing it. surreal that now I'm removing the last posts & rails & cutting it up for removal

there's 1 post remaining, upright, exactly where it was planted so long ago, now embedded deep in some hedges. I don't have the heart to take it away

It'll just rot down and be a great habit for wildlife.
 
got the last of the stalks. this last one was stubborn. dead, so it was dry but it was embedded into & between the stud & lattice panels, basically holding it all together. in fact someone had set screws thru the panel into the stalk. had to remove screws & pry it apart w/ a pry bar

the vertical white plastic connector strip was broken in several places & could never hold the 2 panels together again. zips will have to do, until it all gets replaced
