Cutting a spoke

I'm replacing a broken spoke on my Raleigh Phoenix back wheel. I went to the LBS who measured up the spoke on some device to determine the spoke length. I've roughly attached the spoke and I think it's a couple of mm to long as it protrudes the nipple. Can I cut the spoke down and what's the best way to do it. TIA

I use a park tool cable cutter and then file a lead on the thread but if it's just a couple of mm true the wheel and run a file over it.

You ought to be able to file down 2mm easy enough, after it's fully tensioned in the wheel.

Just ensure no sharp edges are left
