As usual, all the sale bikes are for dwarfs and giants!
I think their descriptions are a bit out. Look at the geometries ... Even the XL is not that big, more like a L! That would fit me and I am only 6' 1", hardly a giant by modern standards.

The L has a 55.4 cm top tube which I would say is really more like a M.

Incidentally, I think THIS is the original Ridley bike on which the Merlin is based.

PS I originally linked to the wrong bike. I think that is now the correct one.

The Pearson frame looked familiar ... It reminded me of the Merlin that I linked to earlier, which is a rebadged Ridley. The geometries of the 2 bikes are identical apart from the Pearson having a longer wheelbase. Maybe the bikes have the same frames but different forks?

Yeah, i mentioned that Pearson earlier in the thread as one of my top choices. That, or better still a Shand Stoater, or a Kinesis Ti would do me just fine. Do Pearson's ever sell off old stock reduced when the new models come out?
I'm not willing to settle for alu forks or Sora or crap colours, but could do with picking something up for £400-600. I think realistically I'm going to have to keep scouring the second-hand market. Let me know if you see anything in a good colour with 105 or SRAM and guard brazings in that price range.Oh, and ideally British - not much to ask! Cheers.

Pearsons only change their range every five years or something and the cx is new to the range, so unlikely and not as a whole bike. You can talk spec with them of course. I got apex rather than tiagra on mine at no additional cost

Why do you need 105 on a winter commuter? Nothing wrong with sora (if you can get on woth the hood shape, which isn't much different to 105) and dirty parts cheaper to replace

There's this with sora, can always replace with 105 and flog the sora

There was a tricross in the classifieds

Or get a proper winter bike, you don't need cx

Or Planet X rugged commuter with tiagra

I bought the Genesis Equilibrium Disc 10 that my brother messaged you for advice about earlier this year. Can't wait to pick it up this weekend! I could use it in winter (indeed it would take guards and wider tyres etc no probs), and I'm sure a lot of plastic bike riders would see it more as a winter bike anyway. But I just think it's so pretty! So I'm planning on not despoiling it with guards and rack and only riding it in the dry.
I mean come on, look at it - who wants to run that beauty through salt and mud and rain?!

Lovely looking bike :becool: I don't think guards would spoil the look of it at all & if its a nice bike to ride use it in winter :okay: Now I have 2 road bikes, one is now a winter/wet weather bike & my tourer has hardly had a look in this winter as the road bikes are a much nicer ride
You could always look for something nicer for a summer bike ^_^ http://www.baldwintitanium.co.uk/ very local to you, I'm already looking at N+1 but it might be a year or 2 away

Had a short ride yesterday on my new bike.

Really happy with it, so comfy with the bigger tyres, good range of gears, nice riding position, anyone no vibration somewhere at the front, might be the mudguards? Faster than my hybrid and softer than my roady
