Picking up my new bike on Fri & figured i'd get myself a few new 'bits' for it, i've got a cheapo comps. from Argos on my 2 bikes at the moment, very basic only a few functions -
I've been using Endomondo to track my rides, but anything more then a couple of hours drains the battery & leaves me phoneless in case of an emergency - Wondered what you guys would recomend, something that could possibly log routes, prefereby wireless and around the £50ish mark

Cheers xx

If you are wanting to log routes you'll be looking at a gps; you'll be struggling to get that for £50. If you are not necessarily needing tracking, there is plenty in that price bracket. I like my Cateye Micro wireless but there are plenty others.

I strongly recommend the CatEye Strada Wireless 8 Functions for £49 .99 or less if you shop around.
Very neat, sleek.easy to fit to road or atb.

whats the new bike?

I definitely agree that using a GPS unit as a bike computer is a good idea because you can 'kill two birds with one stone' and have something to navigate by too.

Cheers HLaB, I was looking at those on Evans website, then another friend suggested HOLUX GPS, he rates it, just wondered if anyone had anyhting else to suggest before I went for this one
It looks as though that one doesn't let you follow a pre-planned route. I'd be tempted to spend £25 extra and get the Holux GPSport 260 which does (according to the info. on the site - I only have experience of Garmin GPS units).

My friend recomened the 245 & sent me the link, as that's the one he has, it was only after I posted the link here that I spotted the 260 - I was just redaing the spec on it - it's on sale, almost half price at the moment, so yes for a few more quid than the other I think it's the one i'm going for - Cheers x

....another friend suggested HOLUX GPS

Never seen that one before - I've only just started looking at GPS systems - but that seems pretty hard to beat for £55!!!

Not too bad looking either? :becool: 000173_s1.jpg

I hope you'll write a full review on it if you decide to get one - us fellow CCers like a bargain!!!

It arrives today!! Well according to the Email from DPD it does LOL!
I am notoriolsy techophobic, I will have to read the instruction book at lesat 3 times , which of course will be in teeny print so may take me 3 days, then another day to attch the thing & set it up, But Yes, i will write a full reviwe once it's been tested.

I borrowed a GPS thingy on Sat at the Sportive, first time I'd used one - The ones they were lending out had maps of all the weekends routes pre-loaded in them, I pressed a button to zoom & managed to switch to one of the other maps, but didn't realise... Got myself in a right tizz over no longer being on the blue line, til realised that was the MTB route & I really didn't want that

Well My Holux arrived, took me a while to figure it out, but got it all set up with my 'preferences' then had to load the Eztour stuff onto the pc & figure that out - to a technically minded person this may eb easy - it took me a while
Been on a couple of test runs, one on the bike, one in the car & one walking yesterday, have downloaded our routes onto the pc, not figured out yet how to get them onto websites (Here or Bookface) to display them though.
Have used the route planner, which is simple enough, but only seems to want to follow main routes not little foot/cyclepaths, but sure that may be down to my own techo-issues. When following a route on the unit it is a very basic screen, no details or roads on it, you are the 'arrow' & just follow the balck line - See attcahed pic
I have GoogleMap on my phone so this really isn't too much of an issue, if am uncertain of my excat location I can have a quick peak at that, all in all it seems a decent enough gizmo for the small price I paid - I was looking at £40ish pound for a basic cycle comp, so for an extra few quid I get all the gps bits too - No more Endomondo & a flat phone!!

Cheers for the pics/short review.

As I said I have only just started looking at the GPS "handsets" so know nothing at all about them.

Keep us(CCers) posted on your feelings about it after you've had it for a couple of weeks - if you don't mind!!

Thanks, and Good luck.

I've missed your posts about your new bike - so I'll have to check your "profile" posts to see if there are any pics!!! :becool:
