Cycle Messenger in the uk

I have been looking at starting my own messenger business in Blackpool. This isn't a big town but I have read that there is one suggested for the town.

My idea is to kick-start this proposal. Blackpool is a cycle friendly town and majority is pedestrianised making it idea for a bike messenger. I just need some advice in running this kind of business.

Talking to someone else who has done this first is a good idea.

There are all sorts of pitfalls from Insurance, failure to meet delivery times or schedules, matching the need with adequate resources.

Two friends of mine looked at a Motorcycle Courier business, and it was a nightmare to set up properly.

These people seem to be busy here in Cambridge. There is also UMS, the university messaging service, a free internal uni/ college delivery bike service. They trundle round on a nice fleet of Pashleys.

If the majority is pedestrianised. Does that not mean you cannot ride your bike in that area?

It is possible to ride a bike, the roads are mostly bollarded to stop cars but riding bikes is ok but not easy

I assume there is a similar problem in other towns or cities

So it's not just for pedestrian users. Riding a bike is legal as well?
