That is not a cycle path, just seems to be a bicycle symbol painted on the road.
Maybe they should wait for the council to explain it before jumping to conclusions.

There's a few of those near me in Harrow, they are just a gentle reminder to road users that cyclists may cycle here, nothing more nothing less. Often they appear just after a cycle lane ends.

How embarrassing that someone goes mouthing off to the press before they know what they are talking about!

That's clearly a cycle route marking, and used to make drivers aware of the increased likelihood of cyclists on that road. And why the hell shouldn't a cyclist be riding there? It's just outside the door zone, so proper positioning.

Perhaps there's more of an issue to be made of the parking in that area, though.

That's what I thought too. As cars are parked there, it's a helpful indication to both motorists and cyclists of where a bike should/will be.

What do you reckon these stories will stay up there, purporting to be a demonstration of the incompetence of the road workers.
When in actual fact they're a demonstration of the incompetent knee jerk reactions of 'Fitness trainer and keen cyclist' Pete Holland and the journalists he approached.
I'd like to think they'd at least take them down, at best explain their dodgy story and educate the masses as to the reality.... I'll be disappointed.

I think that road is basically an extension of the train station car park.

there are several on Leyton high road , and its great. especially when you have had a plum of a driver give you abuse for not riding in the cycle lane ( doorzone) 300 Yds further back. I have pointed at it and then asked them if they think that the sign means thats where i should be riding.

More importantly, isn't it about time we banned the use of the phrase "epic fail"? - It is an Epic Bandwagon of epidemic proportions.

Was something on the forum a few weeks go about these.
Seems some councils are putting these at pinch points for drivers to be aware of cyclists in the absence of, or road too narrow for, a Cycle lane.
A good idea but bot advertised very well methinks, however, there are a few places I would like Newcastle council to put these...

Welling High Street has these. I just assumed it indicated that the road was part of an LCN or NCN without having an actual cycle lane on it.
