Cycle police stopping cyclists entering the contraflow bus lane at Theobalds Road/approach to Bloomsbury this morning. Instructing cyclists to negotiate the much more dangerous High Holborn race track of a one way system instead. It will only be time until they start issuing tickets for entering the bus lane. Police must have finished all there other work then to have time for this!

If it's where I think it is there have been a number of very serious pedestrian accidents on the new bus lane. In response they have erected barriers along the pavement. I suspect the reason that cycling is prohibited is that there is no room for a bus to pass as the lane is narrow, with two lanes of occasionally fast traffic to the right and no escape onto the pavement.
Whilst I don't think that it's the best use of police time, personally I think that the ban on cyclists is reasonable in this instance.

Careful now. Some motorists don't think its good use of Police time in policing motorists speeding, driving whilst use a mobile phone or without seatbelts, etc.

Is the google streetview of this area out of date? It would be interesting to see if it actually says busses only. And in which case, fining taxis which use it?

HC has little standing in law. signage is all regulated by a specific set of regulations
I got stopped and fined there about six months ago. Although the fine was actually for RLJ on the empty pedestrian crossing, which obviously I'm not going to tell anyone on Cycle Chat about, the police (two officers, on foot) did also tell me the bus lane is closed to cyclists.

almost correct
section 3 of TSRGD 2002 sets out the requirements for road signs. the RTA says we ( road users) must comply with them.
which is what i posted . its NOT the law. we all know complying with the guidance in the HC means you will generally be complying with the reevant laws applicable to using the road.
