Cycle Route 55 - Marple / Stockport

I'm trying to find out how the ncn route 55 crosses Manchester.

I can follow the route (on a map) from Macclesfield into Marple but then I completely loose it.

Any ideas where I can get a map of the various Sustrans from?

That's the Middlewood way. It stops there at Rose Hill Marple. I'll have a nosey about !

Try here - on-line map - Cycle GM - not sure it stretces as far as Marple, but there isn't a link from Marple - may need a road section

then use the osm layer (i think, it's the rh tab anyway) this pulls up a weird layer with only national / local routes. it's quite good. it's free and you don't need to register

Yep, the railway still runs into Marple so the path stops there. Its not tarmac either and gets pretty muddy.

NCN 55 uses some off road sections through Salford, but I've no idea what the recommended route is.

Thanks Shaun, fossyant and Cheadle Hulme.

I've just brought a house and more or less right out side is a sign for the NCN55. Obviously this path is a must. The sustrans website claims it runs all the way to Bolton/Preston yet all the maps I can find (and you've linked to) show that it stops at Marple.

I take it that the path hasn't been fully completed yet.

the 2nd link does give a full run down of where it goes. it says things like ' open routes' i don't really know what they mean. at a guess i would say it means 'fend for yourself'.
