I know, and I suggested looking at on-line maps to map a route from his home and I get ?? - I thought these kids were a whizz on the t-internet.

My 14yr old has started going out riding with a mate. The only stipulations are be careful and come back when you are done, preferably before bedtime!

Indeed, they did when I was a youngster. Seven miles to the village where my Grandparents lived seemed like a great adventure back then.

I'd love to offer suggestions @MonsterEnergy but I'm afraid I don't know your area at all. Getting an Ordnance Survey map and exploring as suggested earlier seems a good idea to me.

There`s quite a few trails round his way, just needs to explore and all depend on how much freedom Maw and Paw are allowing !

anyone suggest some good cycle routes in and around Kirkliston or somewhere nearby

go on ride with gps and do a search by postcode/place; you'll get a few routes saved and shared by other cyclists, then you can filter them by elevation, lenght,....
