Cycle scheme bike advice needed

Arh - what a blow

when I first investigated the C2W scheme we could only use Halfords, since I wanted a boardman team CX bike it was ideal. I applied, picked out my bike, ordered it with 15% off and applied. In the meantime we got emails saying we can use the vouchers at more centres, I paid little attention as i felt it didnt affect me. Ive been into halfords today and they say they dont accept the cyclescheme vouchers?? I now realise the change in scheme provider has affected who i can get the bike from.

Im angry that this change was made around the same time as applying and yes i got an email but it wasnt obvious we couldnt now use halfords, they will probably say i should have checked!

So now i need to find another bike i like, any suggestions? i want a sturdy winter bike which i could put slicks on in the summer hence the cx bike, i like the colour of the team, it looks titanium

as i havent signed for the voucher yet i may be able to drop it, not sure and just buy the boardman

One of the Whyte road range, or a Genesis

I still think the Tricross is overpriced, £1000, Tiagra and no carbon fork. And only in size 58cm if you have to use Evans (which might be fine)

yeh they look quite good but the spec is a lot lower than the boardman as i can see

I like the colour of the genisis but looks quite basic, the whyte road range also looks good and has carbon fork but little room for mudgaurds on one of the reviews and only has sora not tiagra

not a speacialised fan and would prefer a carbon fork but still looks to be the better for now, hoping someone can find a better one, going to a local bike shop to check out what they have

Not positive about this but.

As you have not cashed in/ordered a bike with your voucher, i can't see a reason why you would have too continue down this path if you are nno longer satisfied.

Maybe there is a clause somewhere whereby you can cancel, if needs be ?

Maybe e-mail the scheme quoting your voucher number to do this

The Boardman CX Team is a lovely looking bike & they refer to the finish as ''Liquid Metal".
Possibly it could be heavily reduced in the next couple of months as Boardman need to role out their 2015 models soon don't they ?

yes i agree, ive considered this firstly, ive phoned the provider and they are not back until Monday so will have to check with them, ive chekced on my benfits tab on works intranet and its all in there already, it appears the money will come out of my wages already and the signing off now is just to release the money to the lbs - feel a bit conned but partly my own fault

Do you have to buy from evans?

If so, you'd be best to go there and have some test rides

I am most definitely no expert with regards to CX type bikes (or any type of bikes for that matter) but I genuinely believe that Cannondale don't build rubbish & are highly regarded by their customers too.

My main interest is road bikes, although if I could afford lots of bikes then a Boardman CX Team would be bought no doubt.

The only quality advice I can offer is to go & try the 'Dale & others & above all else make sure it fits you very well.

Why do you want the CX over the synapse?

Synapse has 50/34 front and 11-32 rear
CX has 46/36 and 11-28

Thats going to make a big difference.

Im 6 foot 2 and 18 stone, do around 1500 miles a year, around 50/50 my road bike and hybrid. A normal route is around 28 miles with 20 miles of trail and 8 of road. I try to do mainly road in summer. I have a subway 2 and carrera vanquish. One is slow and the other good but not too comfortable. I try to enjoy the rides and not worry about speed, a CX seemed a good compromise between speed, comfort, durability, flexibility of rides and a step up from my other bikes.

I probably average 12mph on my hybrid and 14.5-17.5mph tops on my roady

I wanted gears which are more forgiving to help me do climbs, i find it easier to go uphil on my heavy hybrid than my road bike due to the gears.

is 46/36 lower gearing than 50/34?

Considering the amount of time one spends in the top two gears, surely it wouldn't make *that* much difference?

I have assumed that as the OP was originally going to get a CX Boardman, that's the type of bike he's after, not a road bike....
