For the third year in a row this falls on my day off work - however every day is a cycle to work day for me, why is this one special?

Because on all the other days you just cycle to work, but on Cycle to Work day you are encouraged to cycle to work.

Personally, this makes me ride like a superman.

Sometimes there's a free breakfast in the offing if you want to make a detour and be late for work (I generally always want this)

Seeing as I am on sick for 8 weeks following my accident last week, I will not be cycling anywhere. Cycling to work day is a good idea, but should be earlier in the year in my opinion.

It is just another day cycling to work for me and as I leave before most people are even awake and then cycle 15 miles of car free cycle route it just passes me by.

They usually organise radial routes to Media City from all over Great Manchester on cycle to work day. I might see if I can tag along with one in the Sale/Stretford area - might learn a new back route.

I think they've chosen early September to galvanise all those people who've started riding a bike during the Spring and Summer.

This is what I did - got back into riding in Summer 2012 (thanks Wiggo!) and started commuting in the Autumn. I was lucky that the autumn and winter were very crisp and dry so I really got into using the bike.

I agree that choosing a day that is "back-to school" for a large part of the country isn't the best idea, but I think the time of year is a good one.

It would be pointless to do it here during the school holidays; no-one commutes into the office for the duration, they work from home or they're away.

3rd September is more likely to get more people involved.

Only true of some office workers! - wot about the people working in shops, healthcare, call centres, garages, forests, childcare, hotels..... etc etc... but yes the station car parks are emptier in the commuter towns, it's true.

I'm going to still be on holiday, maybe I'll ride to someone else's work. There's probably a snail farm near me, I reckon the pace of that sort of work would suit me.
