Is there a subforum for Brompton owners, maybe? They'd be good at it

I've made a team, if anyone wants to join, here it is.

Our team number is 206519 so you'll need that number to enter into your Folding@Home client, whether it be your PS3, PC or other computational malarkey you have going on ;-)

F@h it's basically a distributive computing project that that combines the power of may computers, as many computers combined often has more power than most supercomputers, to work out why proteins mis-fold. One of the most common things you will here for F@h is to cure cancer, while it won't directly cure it the information gained from the project will certainly help.

I already do BOINC (seti @ home) ... ... but good idea, and a great use of PC/PS3 idle time.

SETI funding has been pulled no?

Used to be into this years ago but with electric prices (consumption) and overheating components the interest faded.

Yes, funding for the 42 dish Allan array has been pulled, but the project itself is still active and they still have data to process. Their press release says they are actively seeking funding to get the array out of "hibernation" ... ... but I wouldn't hold you breath - there's not a lot of love for searching for ET at the moment, which is ironic, because 1,200 new planets have been observed by the Kepler satellite with some of them even residing in the "goldilocks" zone.

Work at the other two SETI centres continues.

Has there been any tangible results from SETI, I can't seem to see anything on their website?

No ... lol

That's one of the funding issues they have - millions have been spent on it, and they've found nothing.

I'm tinkering with the idea of switching BOINC to one of the bio projects, a cancer one maybe, or somesuch - but I'll still be involved in SETI because the works' PC from my old job is still processing units 4 years after my departure ...

Yes I think the cancer projects are worthwile tbh even though I love the ET element the global (local) scientific research should take priority. After we can cure cancers then ET can have his day.

Wondering if anyone has run the numbers from an ecology point of view: wouldn't it be better to have this numbercrunching done on purpose-built hardware and let consumer PCs save electricity by going to sleep instead?
