You'd have to be able to measure the postion and speed of every fundemental particle and photon of energy in a living thing and then recreate every single one with 100% accuracy and instantly.

Considering it is impossible to neasure the postion and speed of a quantum particle simultaneously this makes it as impossible as it possible to get.

That’s what the Heisenberg Compensator is for, d’uh!

If humanity and its successors settle the entire universe, they will be pleased to learn in their history lessons that it all started here.
Time is unlimited; there seems to be more of it than we can ever use. Even so, a planetary collision might change the story.

A problem with this type of speculation is that we speculate as humans within the limit of human intelligence.

Maybe the (relatively) huge intelligence gap between humans and eg, an earthworm is miniscule vs us and the upper boundary of possible intelligence.

In short, maybe we are too thick to think this through to obtain a sensible answer.

i assume the answer is that there's no way to travel faster than light - none of the exotic physics for ftl such as wormholes, alcubierre drives etc. are practical/survivable as far as we can tell

without any prospect of travelling to other systems in an acceptable time period, there's no logical reason to waste resources on it

as far as humanity goes, if there were early warning that the planet is going to get wiped out by a massive stray object in, say, 50 years, i suspect the response will not be a heroic endeavour to construct a 'space ark' to carry carefully selected colonials to some far away place - look at the response to global warming

better to look after one's home world(s)

...oh dear

The most realistic expectation if Science discovered a large planet destroyin rock heading for The Earth
with zero chance of it missing

is a total breakdown of society as some people realise that there can be no consequences anymore

and rich people realise they can now just do ANYTHING

and farmers realise that working hard is no longer of any use as long as they can feed themselves for the next year

and - it all goes wrong

I suspect there is some secret back door arrangement to keep such things totally secret

Harder do these as there's plenty of amateurs out there, both for spotting it and getting the news out there.
