Check out the LRSU cycling data sheet:

http://londonroadsafety.tfl.gov.uk/www/downloads/publications/PC-Cas-Factsheet-Final-1986-2007.pdf

It gives you KSI info on collisions by manoevre etc...

Going by the Charts on the link above at least 75% of accidents happen at T or staggered juctions what is the reason for this

imo it's because people don't look for cyclists, and thus don't see us.

+1

Also consider not using the word accident as there is no such thing imo, its always down to bad driving/riding or not looking.

What proportion of collisions between cars happen at such locations?

Mine was at a T junction on a very quiet road.....he is now feeling the cost of his mistake !
Definatly not looking for anything smaller than four wheels no matter how well lit.My work mates who ride motorbikes have exactly the same problem only they hit whatever pulls out on them faster.....one Daewoo was written off this year by one fella, thankfully he walked away and he killed one car in the process !

Yeap, definitely, I was involved in a T junction collision with a motorcyclist that wrote off the car (I wasn't the driver).

Wester - at junctions traffic converges. All road users have problems at junctions as evinced by collision data.

Why do cyclists have additional/different problems - well there's "gap acceptance" - cyclists and motorcyclists are more likely to have a car pull out from a minor road into their path as their speed is harder to judge due to a smaller frontal profile.

"Looked but failed to see" plays a part, as does "Looked but don't give a xxxx as you're on a bike".

Met. police have stopped using the term "accidents" basically because so many are completely not the result of chance but of bad decisions or negligence (or occasionally aggression); they now investigate traffic incidents that result in significant injury or death as "collisions" or "crashes" - hence the crime-scene tape.
