Good luck with this, it sounds like an epic adventure!

All of the advice above looks good, how many days are you planning for the trip to take?

From my point of view I would be concentrating on building miles at this stage as the step up from 22 to 60 miles is fairly big and will take time to get there, and your target is to do 60 miles per day back to back presumably for most of it. If you can get out on the road and start doing some regular longer miles you will quickly be able to answer a lot of the questions about what is important to keep you going.

What is a YHA card? I bought a cycle Mio computer for the bike so I don't have to worry about distance etc. The SIM cards are in case of emergency when I am away from the hostels
YHA Youth Hostel Association is affiliated to Hostelling International (HI), if you have a YHA or SYHA(Scottish YHA) card you get a reduced rate at hostels displaying the HI logo.
I've considered taking a 'phone on tours but wouldn't know who to call for help in a foreign land so I just leave the 'phone at home, but I'm old school^_^.

Well because I can't ride 100km everyday without sleeping rough and there are a few cities I want to visit I will be taking around 25-27 days  Good advise though, my navi has a 'surprise me' function so I can really practice!
