Given the data is 5 years old (at best), I suspect the trend is the opposite. Cycling has really taken off in the past few years, certainly become a lot harder to 'park' my bike both at work & in town.

I agree with the problems finding a space both at work or in the town centre (and the last time I had problems it was a wet cold day so I thought that would mean there wouldn't be many cycling.

it's certainly risen around these parts in the last 10-15 years... but seeing just how slowly the traffic moves between lancaster and morecambe, it's not surprising that people are choosing to cycle.

I don't commute, but I often ride around Nottingham in the evening rush hour and it seems to me that the number of cyclists has increased by several hundred percent over the last 2 or 3 years, albeit from a very low base. I can't imagine that the total amount of traffic has changed significantly, so I can only assume the percentage of bicycle commuters has increased.

I've no statistics to back this up, just my observations.

Diminishing round here. Even allowing for the woos's who avoid all weather except 3 days in July the trend is definitely downwards.

Looks to me as though there may be a correlation between the modal rate and the change. where bike commuting is strong it is getting stronger. Where it is weak it is getting weaker. We are in danger of polarisation. Places where you feel comfortable commuting and those where the motor car is king.

The good news is that in volume terms the winners will account for more commuters hence an overall gain.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was declining. Since 2007 there has been a notable deterioration in the UK climate, with about one in four monthly statistics being in the top or bottom ten for sunshine, temperature or rainfall, and mostly in the unpleasant direction (i.e. wettest, coldest, dullest). November to early January has been pretty bad in southern England with it raining nearly every day and continuously dull and windy. I'm not surprised people would rather avoid exposing themselves to such grotty weather.

At my employer it's definitely increased significantly over the 7 years I have been here. We've gone from an almost empty (large) shed summer or winter, to a half full shed even now in January, and struggling to fit them all in there in the summer
