Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of cycling in Protaras - routes, bike hire shops, etc.

I'm heading there on Sunday and as a last minute decision I've decided to take my cycling gear. Am going with family, so my brother in law will be cycling with me. Could just do with some handy tips, if anyone has any?

Thanks

Hi...im guessing you mean Protara near paralimni and agia napa??

I was there last week ish...check out the blog in my sig links and you will see exactly what I thought of agia napa!

Riding around Paralimni area is ok...nowhere near as good as over here in the TRNC though. It's all a bit 'touristy' on the southern side in and around paralimni. protara, agai napa imho.

Road surfaces are ok for skinny tyres but beware they are not as good as here in the TRNC.

There is a good bike shop in paralimni called Ramo pro cycling 285 protaras ave Nihropa court 4 , 5291 Paralimni Tel: 99719266 bit pricy, but it cagers for road riders well.

I dont know if he hires bikes. IMHO you are bette rbringing your own bike, it's only £30 on easy jet.

If you want to I can run you through the routes I ride here, both north and south of the green line.

One cool ride is down past larnaca to limassol then up to th etop of mount olympus.

Make sure your bike has a triple or a compact as a minimum and get some bullet proof tyres fitted, I ride with schwalbe marathon plus 23's, they are perfect on a road bike here.

If you are doing distance rides make sure your bike has two water bottles fitted as a minimum.

It is started to hot up here now, it's best to ride early in th eday if possible to avoid the midday sun, although it's still totally ok to ride through it if covered in sun cream etc.

You will only need short and short sleeved jersey....don tforget your shades and have fun!

Oh BTW dont be afraid to ride in northern cyprus, it's all good here ...in fact better in my opinion. You'll need your passport at the border.

Cheers.

Great Cyprus blog @BigonaBianchi

I'm off to Cyprus on the 25th May - going to a family wedding - and I'm hoping to do a bit of cycling while I'm there. I will be staying in Nissi Beach so I have contact Ramp Pro Cycling so see what they can offer
