Wait ahead at lights

Cycle-Safely.jpg

  • Wait in front of other vehicles when you're at traffic lights. The green painted box with a white cycle symbol shows you where to wait and help you move ahead of other vehicles
  • Make sure you are well in front of large vehicles such as HGVs and are not waiting on the left - make eye contact so they know you are there. If you can't get to the front safely, wait behind the vehicle
That was the first and last thing I read.

You don't need to be ahead of all the vehicles waiting at lights. If I get to lights and these only a couple of cars, I'll queue up behind them. And if theres a large vehicle ahead of me I'll nearly always wait behind it.

Why risk having yet another truck/bus overtaking you?

My positioning at traffic lights varies depending on circumstances.

I think this website has come 25+ years too late for me.
