My wife and I are going to North Yorkshire next week for a holiday and we're considering whether or not to take our bikes. Does anybody know of any off road, relatively sedate routes around the Pickering, Whitby, Scarborough areas.

I've found the Whitby to Scarborough cycle way. Does anyone know this and what its like.

Are there any other routes?

Thanks

sara_h did the whitby to scarborough cycle path recently there is a thread about it here -> CLICK ME

If it is raining I imagine it could get very muddy in places and dont try it on a road bike, I did it in 2008 it was on my MTB and apart from a couple of mechanicals I enjoyed it

We've wondered about doing the Whitby to Scarborough cycle way too (since my parents moved to Scarbs), but so far we've only done Dalby Forest.
We hired* 4 MTBs (mini aos 11 &14) from the Pace bike barn (forgot to enquire about CTC discount) - I had a new Scott 29er which was pretty good. We didn't get time to do justice to what's there, but older mini and I did a good dose of red run trails - great fun, but quite technical. Other wise we all pootled on some blue and green roads - I think there could have been more blue trails as opposed to forest roads (mrs and mini2 didn't get on too well with the reds). But a very good day was had. I was told that the black trails (didn't get there) are on a par with the red trails, but designated black because of being a former world championship course...

* we just reserved the bikes a few days before, without any deposit. Had to phone in to say we were going to be later than 30mins after our stated time of arrival (ran into local country fair traffic)
