Hello to all friendly people here

i am kind of new to cycling and this winter will be my first.

cycling gear is way too expensive with all those campagnolo, specialized etc brands even their baselayers are crazy prices (or i am too tight :/)

could please share your tips how you manage in terms of clothing and winter protection.

thanks
Stay safe

I am in East London and it hasn't been all that cold, yet!

Sports Direct is where I usually end up, as its quite cheap...
Muddy Fox mountain bike shorts, Nike football socks, Karrimoor running t-shirt and running fleece, Muddy Fox gloves and Karrimor wind proof thermal hat, seems to do me fine on my commuting hybrid bike during the week.

But there is one bit of kit I am glad I got, that is the red Altura Night Vision jacket, but it was £90, so...

You may find cheaper online and I am sure some people will have much better suggestions, but I just go with what I have found comfortable.

+1 for the Lidl / Aldi stuff. Never fashionable, but very low prices for perfectly sensible kit. If you're in East London, Decathlon (at Surrey Quays?) might also be worth a visit.

Manchester way
as above. Aldi & Lidl are great but somewhat intermittent. Decathlon are great and always there if you have one near. Look out for cycle jumbles too, invariably lots of kit on the go at them.

don't confine yourself to cycling gear, warm socks are warm socks regardless of designation. Good merino or wicking baselayers too.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Also Tenn UK and eBay.

Often there are sales at the online retailers - check the Bargains thread here.

Your local Aldi may have some gear left over, or indeed running gear too. Good value to get started or indeed for commuting gear that you wear out.

Sports Direct for me. I keep getting vouchers for them as presents off the kids. Karrimor running tights for £8 are a steal.
I can vouch for Lidl Aldi stuff. I'm still wearing their tops after 8 years.

Lidl/Aldi and Decathlon. I have a Crane (Aldi) winter long sleeved top - so far this winter wearing that and a Decathlon tracksuit top (thin) leaves me warm as soon as I get going. Also have a softshell that I haven't work this winter yet - only when it gets really nippy.

Wear good socks and good gloves. The 2 items that are worth spending a few extra quid on. Overshoes are also good but placcy bags inside shoes are also good as an emergency. Extreme cold can cause discomfort in the rest of the body bit the hands and feet suffer worse - I have once been left 3 miles from home having to walk pushing the bike because the agony of approaching-frostbitten fingers and toes (with the wind chill of being on a moving bike) was too painful - the rest of me was "a bit chilly"

I have some thermals from Lidl, cycling tights from decathlon and I got a winterjjacket on sale recently. I'm always toasty warm when I get to work, and everyone else who drove in is ccomplaining it is cold
I do suffer from cold feet, I found hiking socks help a little but I need some proper shoes, but I am skint
