I use a mask depending on weather conditions, I don't need to work to much about smog but you could pick up one of these.

The number of flu-like illnesses, colds, sore throats etc. I caught increased dramatically when I went to the Gym, dropped back to near zero when I stopped.
OK - anecdotal with no proof, but it's put me off regular use of gyms for good.

That conclusion is what is technically known as "extremely tenuous". Find the proper peer-reviewed research and I bet it's hedged around with so many caveats that the conclusion doesn't survive.
