Someone wants to cycle LEJOG but is starting with little experience. To build up confidence and fitness they decide on a strategy which involves cycling one mile on Day 1, two miles on Day 2, three miles on Day 3 and so on. If their chosen route is 1000 miles, how many days will it take them?

[Edited to address lack of precision in the question:sad:]

They will finish on Day 10, though if they carry on as per their chosen method, they will have ridden 1023 miles by the end of the day.

Ah! I was working on the principle of Day 1 = 1 mile. Day 2 = 2 miles. Day 3 = 4 miles etc and doubling it each day.
I blame the questioner for insufficient data!

Depends. I think @Boo has worked on doubling the miles each day (1 on day one, 2 on day 2, 4 on day 3, 8 on day 4....)
It depends - are they adding one extra mile per day, or are they doubling their mileage every day? The OP does not specify.
Question now edited.

Setting the puzzle's proving harder than answering it!
