Cycling tights, or, why I want gender equality

Is anyone else (particularly of the male persuasion, although ladies also feel free to weigh in with your experiences of the time you saw a man wearing a jock-strap and were totally jealous) afraid of buying cycling tights as they think they will be so comfortable that they'll want to start wearing tights on a day-to-day basis? I bought some leg warmers the other day and they are ridiculously comfortable; like your legs are getting a lovely warm hug all the time. It's a similar conundrum to the summer months when you see women wandering around in lovely light breezy dress and try to think up situations where you too can also wear one.

Now I'm not against cross-dressing nor do I believe in this idea of 'masculinity', but I'm not sure I can pull tights off. I guess I could just buy some and walk around in my cycling gear all the time, but I'm not quite ready to become one of those people just yet.

Thoughts (other than the obvious: this wasn't worth a new thread you idiot)?

As much as I find cycling gear comfy, I've never even though I'd light to wear tights  But I am one of those people who will wear cycling gear all the time, might call at the local after a ride & stay for an hour or 2 in my lycra, or when I get home after a ride I'll have my tea, quick browse on here, maybe watch some TV & before I know it, I've been home 3 hours & still in lycra

Come to Scotland and you can do it: merino long johns in winter and a kilt in summer. Cannae beat it!

Confession time, I do have a pair of cycling tights and yes they are very comfortable. My Mrs laughs at me when I wear them but what the hell, they keep my old knees warm and my backside padded and I don't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks. ^_^

Can't say I can relate to that, I'd be thinking of removing said dress, not wearing it - but my uncle was a tranny. Wear what you want, it's only clothes. Ask first if they're not yours though.

Bought cycling tights to keep my legs warm when on my bike in colder weather. Don't give a toss what others think. Wouldn't want to wear them all day though, unless I was on my bike all day, as I don't particularly find them comfortable for walking around.

Can't say I have felt the urge to wear a dress on a summer day.

Only problem I have with tights/leg warmers is unsightly leg hair trying to make a break for freedom through the material.I have been known to spend a few hours in the pub wearing them, but I do make sure the bike is at arms length the whole time so as not to arise suspicion. It is a bit of a pain having to take my bike to the pub just because I want to wear tights though.

Wear what you want. Nobody cares.

My offsprings' friends in their teenage years wouldn't bat an eyelid when visiting Chateau Vernon to find me wearing just a kilt, or just bib tights, or some other off piste clothing.

"My house. My rules. Your problem" - memorise and deploy.

Problem solved.

If you've got to talk about it, it's still your problem. :okay:

Just to clarify: I'm talking about wearing tights - not cycling tights - off the bike. I don't have a problem wearing them whilst cycling. I was also not being entirely serious (or was I? I'm so confused)

The chief problem with wearing tights off the bike, IMO, is that they don't have pockets. Which is fine if you're also wearing a cycling jersey, but if you want to wear something more conventional up top - like, a t-shirt - you need to start carrying a bag to put your wallet and keys in

My answer to that bumbag, when I was on my bike I had my camalbak, but now on the trike I have to resort to the bumbag
