just don't go for the brown shorts from ag2r la mondiale xx(

Common practice around here for local clubs to be sponsored by a local business. There might only be 20 active riders in the club but it doesn't stop them having the name of the local supermarket plastered on their shirts.
20 in a club I could understand ... There's 327 members the club I am in. There would be uproar if the club had to change there club tops for the reason of a brand name that they had to change !!

Wearing pro tops is just the same as People wearing football tops when playing or even watching football.
To the OP, brands are on the pro riders own shirts because that is what pays for their team. Brands are on the retail shirts because supporters are prepared to give the shirtmaker a substantial extra profit to imitate/support/get reflected glory from their chosen team - and nothing wrong with that.
Don't get me started on F1 nerds that own a 1.4 diesel and think they have something in common with Jenson Button, because they wear the same merchandise.
There again, a branded baseball cap is a lot cheaper than moving to Monaco to avoid income tax.
