Simon Singh, 43, of Huntingdon, took a picture of the wreck-age of the cycle. He said: “We were on the bus and the lady who was driving was bipping at him for about a mile.

“The bus got closer and closer and he just jumped off the bike, basically. If he had stayed on it he wouldn’t be alive now.”

Andy Campbell, managing director of Stagecoach Cambridgeshire, said buses could stop and the circumstances around the incident were being investigated. He said: “The operations manager for the depot is dealing with that issue, has viewed the CCTV, and is going through the company's disci-plinary procedure.”

Linky.

Well that does put a different slant on it! If she saw him a mile ahead then she had penty of time to break. I still say he was an absolute plonker for cycling on the busway though....headphones or no headphones!

He was wrong cycling.

She should be sacked and investigated by the Police. Un-fecking-believable behaviour!

I was about to say perhaps the driver was unable to stop in time if they were doing 50mph and had a load of standing passengers, but that just takes the piss.

Yes the guy was a muppet for riding there, but for the driver to be fully aware of their presence for upwards of a MILE and still drive into them is inexcusable.

Can you be done for dangerous driving if it's on a busway rather than a road?

Agreed. Plonker ≠ acceptable to be nearly killed (otherwise the streets would be piled high with corpses!)

That driver should be sacked. If the cyclist hadn't leapt off, he would be dead.

Cllr Bates was "pleased the emergency procedures had worked"
Er, what?

I suspect that the bus was following the cycle and if the cyclist had just carried on, it would have been fine. He probably panicked, leapt off, effectively throwing his bike underneath the slowly approaching bus.

Yea, all the evidence points towards that...not! Did you bother reading any of it?
