Just doing a bit of final route planning and can't see how to access the old Severn bridge (M48). We'll be coming from Bristol along the A403 upto the M48 roundabout.

Any locals know how to access it without turning up the motorway slip road?

I think I've found it. There's a turning off the A403 before the roundabout which leads to an acess road that seems to go upto the toll booths.

That'll take you to the path that's on the southern side of the bridge. Both times that I have used this bridge, I've taken the path that runs on the northern side of the bridge, as described by mickle.

Does it matter though? I assume it's ok to use the one I've found?

As you approach the roundabout there is a marked cycle lane that takes you across the slip roads to the path on the north/east side. South/west side is signposted as footpath, but you can cycle or walk on either.

You can use either side of the bridge sometimes one side is closed for maintenance. Dont worry too much it will be clear when you get there.
