Cyclist death here in Southampton

Oh man. That's bad.

Not a pleasant area for cyclists at all trust me. It's quite industrial, with lots of junctions and a railway line nearby.

Although to be honest, it's quite flat and spacious in places so I'd expect lorries to see people more.

You get a lot of traffic cutting through there too to get to Bitterne, cross Northam Bridge and get a faster route to the itchen bridge than cutting across town.

Also being more of an industrial area, you do get a lot of lorries.


Really sad. :-(

I'm going to point my finger at the council here. There is a nice cycle path before the northam bridge I think and frankly they should extend it through Northam to prevent shoot like this from occuring.

Sad to hear. As others have posted, sympathy for all family and friends affected by this tragedy.

Okay, time now to wheel out the old chesnut; just because a HGV can be a menace, it doesn't necessarily mean, as inferred by a few posters, it was on this occasion. Possibly/probably/maybe, but not definitely. Hard facts before castigation ..... ?
