Illegal Cyclist Dismount Signage
by downfader, on Flickr

Anyone cycling through Southampton and want to complain - THIS is the lady to send the email to. She is in charge of Transport policy at SCC. CTC suggested a while back these are not sanctioned by the Department for Transport and recommendations are that they're replaced with a Giveway sign.

The whole of Second Avenue cycle route, although not great, is under threat of removal. A shared path has been proposed (about 1m wide, and with many driveways to cross - HGVs entering and exiting them). If any local riders want to chip in over that, feel free. Cllr Pope has objected on our behalf and could do with some support. He is one of the few really pro-cycling Councillors you will find.

Thanks for the heads up.

It's incorrect because there's no compulsion for cyclists to dismount - they can use the road.
However his point is the sign is on the footpath. A cyclist should not be mounted while on the footpath. Its clearly not the purpose or intention of the sign to mean such.

He's just asking silly questions. In one photo the sign's on a cycle path, which is where they usually appear. It should really say: 'Cyclists should perhaps consider dismounting, although they are perfectly entitled to use the road'.
I know hes a troll you don't have to tell me ha.
