Gavintc - depends upon the helmet..... could be a cheap one.....

My Pneumo looked intact other than scuffs on the outer shell, but having it on my head on my crash, and hearing/feeling the impact, I'd not wear it again.... and it was a good few years old.... but not a cheap lid......

If the helmet split in 2, it didn't do it's job, it just failed.
Ah. So he would have been better off without his helmet;)

IMO a helmet can help to prevent or minimize injury. No helmet can protect against all possible impacts, Not hitting something hard is infinitely better than hitting with a helmet on!

TBH i am quite certain it would have been worse if he had no helmet on but as we know on this forum that's an argument for another day.

Being a member of my family obviously i am glad he is ok. With hind sight it would have probably been better to have slowed right down, i tend to sit back so i know buses and lorrys can see me but as i said above i don't think i would have done much different in the same circumstance. You can't pre empt someone is going to RLJ.

Controversial............. All we need are contributions from the Cyclists Riding Anti-helmet Party another  is likely.

Glad the cyclist is ok.
