Cyclist fatalities are on the rise

they should scrap all cycle paths and lanes and re-educate drivers that we have a right to be there, and they will be severely punished if they are found guilty of causing an accident. then they wouldn't believe they have a right to think the road only belongs to them.

...and would they prefer we were in a car holding them up instead???

Fully agree, it seems to me that cycle lanes can simply encourage bad road positioning by both cyclists & drivers. If the road is wide enough for an effective cycle lane then it doesn't need one, if not, get rid of them. Far cheaper to educate road users instead. If the powers that be really, really feel they need to spend money on cycling then issue a copy of Cyclecraft with every bike sold.

When I came home yesterday there was a House of Commons letter on the door mat.... opened it to discover that my MP has added his signature to the Early Day Motion 1431.

I think an email reply would have been fine. I didn't know this system existed.
