Bike fall sparks major air rescue
A major rescue operation involving an air ambulance and a Portland Coastguard helicopter was launched after a cyclist fell off his bike riding up a hill. It is understood South Western Ambulance alerted the coastguards as the man was in an inaccessible part of Swanage, obstructed by pylons.
The man, 42, suffered a broken leg, damaged teeth and back injuries "going over his handlebars at 35mph".
The Bournemouth man was flown to Dorset County Hospital, the coastguard said.
A spokesman added: "We were alerted by South Western Ambulance at about 1355 BST.
"Our helicopter landed near him and winched him [to the hospital] about 1454 BST."
