That's far too close to home for my liking. Acre Lane is a horrible road to cycle on at the best of times.

I feel sorry for everyone affected.

Break it up, break it up.

I can understand the perspective of not wanting to speculate on something tragic like this at such an early stage, but I can also understand this is just a little tucked away corner of the internet and anything that comes up is unlikely to actually affect the relatives of the deceased.

Only thing I feel messes up this forum is people, lacking the restraining effects and personal accountability of face to face interaction, being too happy to be agressive and insulting alongside sharing their opinions.

If you google "Brixton Cyclist fatality" CycleChat is currently at the top of the search results, if you google "pedestrian fatality Brixton" lfgss is top - these types of cycle fora are not far flung outposts on results page p3344.

I also know from both personal experience and from reading the contributions of friends or family on rider down threads that victim blaming, often dressed-up as "reasonable speculation" can be distressing when the facts are not known, or may never be known.

I agree, particularly with the last point. Speculation as to how it happened often comes across as blaming the victim, even if not intended to be, and rarely adds anything.

Unfortunately there has been another fatal accident in London today. It happend at 1.20 on the junction of Tanner Street, Tooley Street and Jamaica Road. Again, it involved a lorry, and this time the victim for sure was a cyclist. This meas that either 7 of 8 cyclists have already been killed on London roads this year, 4 or 5 of them by vans or lorrys. In the entire year of 2010 the number of killed cyclists was 10. This could turn out to be a very bad year.
Take care!

I've been through and removed a number of distasteful posts from this thread, and I've left a couple which explain very eloquently (thanks, Origamist) why we need to have a thought for others.

CC viewing is not limited to the members. There have been many occasions when Google has turned up a CC thread for something which is totally unrelated so please have some consideration for all potential readers when posting on an issue as sensitive as this one.

Thanks

 definately changed for the worst...

thats super grim

Agreed, and a skip lorry again.
How long is this going to go on 'till somebody does something? If we can't get a backlash in London, where can we?
We're doomed to keep dying .... and nobody really cares.
