Hi Dave,
Sorry to hear about your accident
can you give us more details please. Are they claiming or you? I guess you have badly damaged your bike. Did you get the drivers details? Telephone number, car reg etc?

You can contact and join the CTC (here) you can join and claim retrospectively on the insurance I am led to believe. It costs £36.

Oooh sorry to hear about your crash! How are you and how's the bike?

Generally going into the back of another vehicle would be your fault, but perhaps they pulled over and stopped so quickly that you had no chance to stop in time? I'm guessing that second isn't so likely given your head down comment.

I don't think that's quite right - I always thought use of the CTC-affiliated lawyers was on a no-win no-fee basis. Joining afterwards wouldn't help from an insurance point of view.

It's still best to be a CTC member - they do a lot of good for cycling quite apart from the insurance benefit.

Like others have said contact the CTC's lawyers...I can't imagine you would be able to claim on the insurance. Seems stupid

Generally, if you go in the back of someone there is an assumption that it is always your fault. Did the cycle path have a solid white line? If it did I think it is illegal for the car to pull over into it.

I would contact the CTC's lawyers/legal help thing!!!

Also, check your home insurance, you might have personal liability on that?

Or try (I liked them) BikeLine.

Highway Code 140:
Cycle lanes. These are shown by road markings and signs. You MUST NOT drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a solid white line during its times of operation. Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable. You MUST NOT park in any cycle lane whilst waiting restrictions apply.

Won't get you off running in to the back of him.

You may be able to argue the toss over it still. Anything is worth a try TBH.

OP's own fault.....head down and into the back of a parked vehicle.....

Check your household insurance policy to see if you have any third liability insurance.

Always worth joining CTC/BC if a regular cyclist. You are covered for silly mistakes.

I doubt it, you're only covered from the point of starting a policy. Insurance wouldn't exist if you could claim retrospectively...

Definitely. Might easily be covered for this through personal liability already.

Get yourself cover and anyone else who is reading this without 3rd party cover.
It is not much to pay and producing the 'card' will deflate any driver thinking that they have goldmine to play up to with a call to injurylawyers4Uoo
