Driving was pretty standard, not causing you a problem...no need for the shake of head and hand up - gave you loads of room....

PS that was quite speedy for you wasn't it....all this training for the 100 eh.....

Actually, I have an admission to make. I contrived this video. All of the drivers were paid to drive at 15mph for me.:biggrin:

I got the point of it. The car didn't do much wrong except he misjudged your speed and got into a gap that he shouldn't have as it caused another road user to alter their speed. Doing what you did was fine, you'd have had to have done it whether the fool in the Focus nipped in front of you or not!

Guys, the reason I shook my head, was not because the driving was dangerous, but because he sat behind me, pulled out, went past me and pulled back in again. I was shaking my head because he obviously had that, MUST GET PAST CYCLIST attitude.

Anyway it was a bit of fun!

If you were in London and if you were in a car and there was a gap that size someone would have overtaken to get into it. To be fair the Focus gave you lots of room. Saying that it always put a smile on my face as well when overtaking buses/cars/hgvs!

EMD,

I had absolutely no problem with the car pulling in there, it was just the fact that he was directly behind me and felt the need to go around me, when it was obvious I was keeping pace.

Anyway as I said, it was a mild annoyance, certainly not something I would have posted, had it not been for the fun overtakes! ;)

marinyork,

Yes I have increased my average speeds by a couple of mph over my commute.

I'll occasionally overtake a car that's done the same and then let them overtake again, and then play this over and over again so you end up circling them. I think they always get the message.

Great video but mostly for the speed, I'd like to hold a speed like that and am working towards it as a goal.

As far as the driving is concerned I agree it's just typically stupid behaviour but at least it was not dangerous. I had the same thing happen to me today approaching a roundabout and some bint in an Alfa felt the need to pass me when I was about 5 meters from the entrance:angry:

Can I ask what you used to ride and how much speed you've gained from your new bike?

I don't really get why the car cut in when it overtook though. Was it tactical because all it did was encourage mags to overtake it.

The driver was queue jumping and that's simply not British.
