Because the media never mention the clips most of us post of bad cyclists, including Gaz's Silly Cyclists series. If they did that, it would prevent them from perpetuating this "war" myth that helps them keep their ratings up.

Indeed. It is the mis-reporting or at least the reporting bias that is the issue here. I would be more than happy for the media to use all of my clips, including the ones where I upfront admit making mistakes. In fact as far as I was aware gaz's silly cyclist videos were to be used, i.e. cyclists getting annoyed with other cyclists. That would have brought balance, but they obviously decided against that.

It's more dramatic to perpetuate the 'war on the roads' idea.

If only there was a section of the media who were really interested in the truth and not just a soundbite. It makes you realise just how filtered all the information that you see and hear is. Scary.....

I suppose as others have mentioned its cheap to make. I'm not surprised that your tanker footage was shown, yours and the poor chap that got hit on the roundabout are the most shocking and appalling videos that I've seen. It's both the impact and proximity that appals.

I agree with you in that its not a battle, and it should never be expressed as such - people are f*cking discourteous and value life as cheap. My husband works in the loading bay of one of the towers in Canary Wharf. A packaging lorry was reversing into said loading bay when one cyclist thought it would be OK to sneak past the lorry. Que much shouting from security staff, the lorry driver thought he had actually killed the cyclist. Security staff march up to cyclist, they all have RFID tags on their bikes which they swipe to gain access, it gets cut off his bicycle and he is instructed to park his bicycle outside. Cyclist goes ballistic at my husband and the other staff and goes upstairs to wail and complain.

Result? Cyclist received a final written warning from his employers and he is no longer allowed to park his bike in the building.

Good.

Just because one rides a bike, doesn't give one free reign to be a pillock.

I still can't see how motorists can excuse bad driving (which sometimes kills cyclists) with a retort that cyclists don't pay road tax/RLJ/ride on paths?????

If you are being completely logical about it they can't. But life isn't like that & it gives them an excuse to deny responsibilty for their actions. In case you haven't noticed we live in a pseusdo-adolescent society where everything is someone else's fault. Speed cameras being a good example. Don't speed= don't get caught, but somehow it has to be the fault of the government for 'raising revenue' not the individual motorist for breaking the law.

I say don't act in a way which provides them with an excuse.

You are correct, i gave them permission to use clips from my silly cyclists.

As others have said, it's not a war on motorists, it's a 'war' on bad/dangerous road users.

I've just heard a trail on Radio 5 for the Tony Livesey show & they play magnatom's 'it's not about cyclists vs car drivers' quote. How famous is that?

That can't be Magnatom, the voice doesn't sound girly enough sounds way too low

I missed that phone in, but the statement Livesey makes on the trail is rather unhelpful. "Who is the real danger on the roads; drivers or cyclists?" As one group kills 3000+ a year and the other <1 then the answer to that is obvious, but in the trail and without any context it makes it sound like the cyclists are.

Haven't heard it and probably won't have a chance. If someone had a chance to record the trailer that would be great!

No need. I just happened to catch it online.

:becool::biggrin:

Seriously though, it is the most important message, so if it is getting some air time, good stuff.

I saw this without reading this thread - thread says it will say about the problems with CPS - but I saw nothing of the sort, or did I see the wrong thing?

Martin porter talked about the issues cyclist face with reporting bad driving and getting something done. AKA the rozzers and CPS

He only mentions about the Police not doing anything (without the camera) because its "word against word"...
