Norwich is further north than Birmingham, so how many people would say Norwich was a northern city?

None many, that's how many.

Sorry but you're not a northerner. What have Liverpool and Manchester got to do with the price of fish. The middle of Derbyshire is about 200 miles from the south coast and about 200 miles from the Scottish border. By definition, the Midlands. You're a Midlander.

But I'm not actually from chesterfield, I'm from north Derbyshire and north of "the well known midland county of south Yorkshire" said no one ever.

North Derbyshire is still Derbyshire which is still in the midlands. Just naming random other places that are south of you is pointless and just makes you as annoying as @User1314 . May as well say I'm a Northerner cos I live north of the south coast.

This indicated the differance between big city and small town realities.
Where I live, pop 30000, the very rare time I pass a fellow cyclist almost always do we greet each other. I may see 3 fellow cyclist a week, in the winter I might see 3 fellow cyclist in a month.
In larger cities with bigger populations if you said hello to every cyclist you would never shut up.

I was in The Clachaig Inn in Glencoe some years back. The band (Black Eyed Biddy) were complaining about the Anglo-centric bias on the BBC news. For example when the news talked about Newcastle being "the north east".

"That's no the north east. That's the middle east".

My gran, who came from Orkney, would refer to everywhere from the tip of the north of Scotland down as 'The South'

Nothing better than cycling into work on a warm summer morning to be greeted with a cheerful 'GOOD MORNING' from a slightly overweight middle aged man who has taken his top off but remains very sweaty. This happens without fail on my commute every morning. If I'm super lucky I'll meet him again in the evening for an 'EVENING'.

As we are going in opposite directions, I remain hopeful we'll never share a conversation beyond these awkward greetings.

Anyhow, I crossed routes with Martin this morning and I gave him the one-finger salute, in keeping with his no friendliness week, but he either just blanked me or simply didn't see me. I'll be more proactive next time...
Ha ha. Didn't see you. Not seen you for a while. Sure it was me? Im on a different bike now.

Red, white and blue top, stopped at the lights at the top of Westmount Road, around 6:50am. Sacrilege I know, but I didn't register the bike make. Unless you have a lookalike cyclist roaming the streets of Welling...
